Content is King in SEO

Content is King

For all the different ways we’ve found to make and edit new media content such as pictures and videos, text based content is still king when it comes to getting your business or organisation found online.

Why Text Based Content is King in SEO

It’s simple, search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo can only find things through ‘text’ searches. They modify their algorithms regularly, but they still search based on text. Pictures or video files can only be found by the names given to the or the descriptions attached to them – not by the actual content of the pictures or videos themselves.

Good Content leads to Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)

Having ‘meaningful’ text based content on your site, designed properly for Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) purposes, is the best way to be found by ‘Organic Search’. Organic search simply means your site was found by a click on a non-advertised link (advertised links are the ones at the top in the search results, see graphic below) following an online search. Google’s Ad Words is an example of a paid online advertising platform.

Organic versus Paid For Traffic

So, the easiest and most efficient way to make sure your site is found by Google, as in this instance, is to pay to have your adverts appear at the top of the search. But it is a long way from being the cheapest way to bring an ongoing stream of highly profitable traffic to your website.

Google Ad Words (and the equivalent in Bing, Yahoo and others) is fine for one off campaigns, launches or marketing specific products at specific times (e.g. a Christmas promotion), but it is a very expensive way of getting traffic to your site on a regular basis.

High Quality Content – that’s how to get traffic to your site

The most cost effective way to drive a regular stream of high quality, and thus profitable, leads to your site is by having a lot of relevant information. That relevant information must also be designed in a manner that is attractive to Search Engines such as Google, Bing and Yahoo.

Be Sociable with Social Networking

It is not enough to just have high quality content, though. You must also take steps to share that content. Giving credit where it is due in your content and then linking to the providers of that particular product or service is a great way to encourage others to not only read your content, but also to share it with others. You start off a chain reaction that introduces lots more new faces to your content and gives you extra channels through which you can promote your business, product or service.
